On January 6, 2016, eight departments including the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Environmental Protection, the Ministry of Commerce, the General Administration of Customs, and the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine jointly announced the "Management Measures for the Restriction of the Use of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Products" (Order No. 32, hereinafter referred to as the "Measures"). These management measures will officially take effect on July 1, 2016, and will replace the current 2006 version of China's RoHS "Management Measures for the Control of Pollution Caused by Electronic Information Products."

Mercury and its compounds
Cadmium and its compounds
Hexavalent chromium compounds
Polybrominated biphenyls (PBB)
Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE)
To meet the requirements of the first step, according to the standard SJ/T 11364-2014 "Marking Requirements for the Restriction of the Use of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Products," electrical and electronic products must be labeled with information related to the restricted substances they contain to assist consumers and recycling facilities. The labeling requirements are as follows.
The green "e" mark indicates that the product does not contain restricted substances and is a green, environmentally friendly, and recyclable product.
The orange "number" mark indicates that the product contains certain hazardous substances and can be safely used within the Environmental Protection Use Period (EPUP, indicated by the number in the center of the mark). After the EPUP ends, the product should enter the recycling system. Manufacturers and importers must also provide, in tabular form according to the standard SJ/T 11364-2014, the names and locations of the hazardous substances contained in the product.
