Composite rocking screens typically employ a basic principle similar to that of ordinary rocking screens, which involves using a standard motor to drive a basic rotary motion, closely resembling manual sieving. Material enters the interior of the screen frame through the feed inlet and is sieved via the screen mesh inside the frame. As one of the core components, the oscillating body is connected to the equipment's base through resistance rotation springs and the main shaft assembly. Its motion trajectory is achieved by adjusting the radial and tangential angles, forming an involute motion on the screen mesh. Additionally, it may feature an exciter with an adjustable eccentricity to generate nonlinear three-dimensional motion, causing the material to mimic manual operation for sieving purposes.

The residence time for each type of product can be adjusted by modifying the radial and tangential angles of the rocking screen toward the drive axis, thereby establishing horizontal and throwing three-dimensional tumbling motions. The material is evenly dispersed across the entire screen surface from the center to the outer edge, propagating axially in a spiral motion. Fine particles complete the sieving process, with horizontal and vertical accelerations increasing as the particles move. Particles close to the screen aperture size are successfully separated, while larger particles are transported to the outlet, where an adjustable guide device controls the flow rate.
