The sow farrowing crate, also known as a high-platform farrowing pen, mainly consists of a sow positioning frame, piglet enclosure, piglet warming box, slatted floor, sow feeder, and piglet supplement feeder. The sow positioning frame controls the sow's free movement area and lying posture. There are barrier rods between the sow farrowing crate positioning frames to prevent piglets from being crushed, trampled, or injured. The length of the 3.8 positioning frame is generally 2.1-2.3 meters, the width is 0.6 meters, and the height is 1.0 meters. A curved barrier post is welded onto a lower rail of the limiting frame to protect the piglets without hindering their nursing. The sow feeder and drinker are located at the front of the positioning frame.

The piglet enclosure provides an activity space for the piglets and prevents them from escaping. There are two types of enclosures: bar-type and partition-type. The bar-type is conducive to ventilation and observation but not favorable for disease prevention. The partition-type is good for disease prevention but more expensive. The piglet enclosure measures 2.0-2.3 meters in length, 1.7-1.8 meters in width, and 0.6-0.7 meters in height, with grid spacing not exceeding 40 mm. The piglet supplement feeder and drinker are installed at the rear of the enclosure, allowing feces to be discharged from the back.
