In the molding process of 3D printed photosensitive resin molds, liquid silicone rubber is one of the core materials. It replicates the details of the photosensitive resin master mold to create reusable silicone molds, which are then used for batch casting of materials such as resin, wax, and plaster, enabling low-cost and high-efficiency product replication.

  1. Master Mold Preprocessing

    • Cleaning: Wipe the photosensitive resin master mold with alcohol to remove surface oil and support residue;
    • Sealing: If the master mold has gaps (such as micro-gaps between 3D printed layers), use putty or Vaseline to seal them to prevent silicone rubber leakage;
    • Release Agent (Optional): For complex master molds (e.g., deep cavities, multiple undercuts), spray a layer of neutral release agent (such as silicone oil spray) to further reduce demolding difficulty.
  2. Silicone Rubber Mixing

    • Mix components A and B in proportion (e.g., 1:1), slowly stir along the container wall with a stirring rod (avoid vigorous stirring to prevent air bubbles), and stir for about 3-5 minutes to ensure uniformity.
  3. Debubbling Treatment

    • Pour the mixed silicone rubber into a vacuum debubbling machine, evacuate to -0.1MPa, and maintain for 2-3 minutes until bubbles are completely removed (bubble-free condition is crucial for mold accuracy; otherwise, the replica may have pits).
  4. Pouring Silicone Rubber

    • Slowly pour the silicone rubber from the edge of the master mold (height not exceeding 5cm), allowing the liquid to naturally flow and cover the master mold to avoid displacement or bubbles caused by impact;
    • For large master molds, pour in 2-3 batches (first covering the surface, then pouring the remaining part after 30 minutes of curing) to reduce bubble accumulation.
  5. Curing and Molding

    • Cure at the temperature specified in the instructions (e.g., 6 hours at room temperature 25°C, or 2 hours with heating at 50°C), and avoid vibration and dust contamination during the curing process.
  6. Demolding and Trimming

    • After curing, gently peel the silicone mold from the edge and check for any missing details or bubbles;
    • If there is excess flash on the mold edge, trim it with scissors to improve subsequent casting accuracy.
