What are the commonly used materials for plastic gears?
Plastic gear materials: Polyoxymethylene (POM) is the most commonly used gear material and one of the most important engineering thermoplastics, with over 40 years of history. Due to its low moisture absorption, POM ensures long-term dimensional stability of gears across a wide temperature range, along with excellent fatigue resistance and operational performance, making it the preferred choice for plastic gears.
Nylon (PA66 and PA46) offers good toughness and durability, making it another commonly used plastic for gears. However, nylon has strong moisture absorption properties, which can cause dimensional changes in plastic parts. Therefore, it is not suitable for high-precision gear applications.
Polycarbonate (PC) features excellent impact resistance, weather resistance, high hardness, low shrinkage, and good dimensional stability.
