What is the injection time in injection molding?
The injection time referred to here is the time required for the plastic melt to fill the cavity, excluding time for mold opening, closing, etc. A short injection time has a minor impact on the molding cycle, but adjusting the injection time plays a significant role in controlling the pressure at the gate, runner, and cavity. Proper injection time facilitates ideal melt filling and is crucial for improving product surface quality and reducing dimensional tolerances.
Injection time is much shorter than cooling time—approximately 1/10 to 1/15 of the cooling time—and can serve as a basis for predicting the overall molding time of plastic parts. During mold flow analysis, the injection time in the analysis results will match the injection time set in the process conditions only when the melt completely fills the cavity via screw rotation. If screw decompression switching occurs before the mold cavity is fully filled, the analysis result will exceed the set process condition.
