The 980 nm filter is a high-performance optical component specifically designed for the near-infrared band. Its core function is to efficiently transmit an extremely narrow range of light around the central wavelength of 980 nm while deeply blocking other wavelengths, thereby enhancing the system's signal-to-noise ratio and protecting downstream sensors. Based on functionality, it can be categorized into three types: narrowband pass, bandpass, and notch. Narrowband/bandpass types are commonly used in applications such as laser purification, fluorescence detection, iris recognition, and laser ranging. The notch type is primarily employed in 980 nm high-power laser therapy systems, offering ultra-high blocking depths of OD6 to OD8 or higher within 980 nm ±5 nm. This reduces watt-level laser power to one hundred-millionth, preventing CCD/CMOS sensors from burning out while ensuring high transmission in the visible or 810 nm monitoring bands for clear real-time imaging guidance. To withstand intense laser exposure, the film is manufactured using ion-sputtered hard coating technology, featuring an ultra-thin 1.1 mm optical glass substrate, excellent thermal stability, wide angular tolerance, durable coating, and long service life. Future trends point toward solutions with steeper cutoff slopes, narrower bandwidths, higher environmental tolerance, as well as tunable and miniaturized integrated designs. It serves as an indispensable spectral "gatekeeper" in biomedical imaging, laser processing, night vision, and scientific research.
