Purpose: This instrument is used to determine the internal tearing resistance or tearing degree of paper. The working principle of the instrument is based on the work consumed to tear the test sample by a certain length. Under normal circumstances, 16 sheets of paper are overlapped together for the tearing test. Therefore, the total work consumed to tear these sheets is divided by the product of the number of test samples and the tearing distance, and the quotient is the force required to tear one sample, expressed in grams. The instrument scale and graduations are calibrated under the conditions of tearing 16 samples with a tearing distance of 86 mm (the tearing length of the sample is 43 mm, and the tearing distance is twice that).
