Product Use: This instrument is designed according to the basic parameters and requirements specified in GB/T 1540-2002, the method for determining the water absorbency of paper and paperboard (Cobb method). This standard is applicable to measuring the surface water absorbency of various types of paper or paperboard. However, it is not suitable for accurately evaluating the writing performance of paper or paperboard.

Product Features: The Cobb value of paper and paperboard surface water absorption: the amount of water absorbed by the surface of a unit area of paper or paperboard under certain pressure and temperature within a specified time, measured in g/m2. The specific formula is as follows: C = (G2 - G1) × 100. Where: C - Cobb absorbency value; G2 - mass of the sample after water absorption; G1 - mass of the sample before water absorption. The paper and paperboard absorbency tester is a conventional instrument for testing the surface water absorbency of paper and paperboard, also known as the paper surface absorption weight tester. This instrument adopts the Cobb test method, one of the various methods for absorbency testing, hence it is also referred to as the Cobb absorbency tester.

Technical Parameters

1. The internal cross-sectional area of the metal cylinder is 100 ± 0.2 cm2 (corresponding internal diameter is 112.8 ± 0.2 mm), the height of the cylinder is 50 mm, and the contact surface between the cylinder ring and the sample should be smooth.

2. The basis weight of the absorbent paper is 200–250 g/m2, with an absorption rate of 75 mm/10 min. When the basis weight of a single layer of absorbent paper is less than 200–250 g/m2, multiple layers can be stacked to meet the requirement.

3. Smooth metal roller: the length of the roller is 200 ± 0.5 mm, and the mass should be 10 ± 0.5 kg.

4. Test water volume: 100 ml ± 5 ml.
