Crack-resistant tape (also known as anti-crack tape) is composed of asphalt-based polymer, tensile-resistant base fabric, and high-temperature-resistant fabric compatible with asphalt. When applied to cracked or peeling asphalt concrete surfaces, it reduces and blocks the thermal shrinkage stress acting on the road surface, thereby minimizing the tendency for cracks to reflect through the surface layer. Laid on the pavement, it isolates the base layer from the upper wear layer, protecting the surface layer from multi-directional displacement and shear stress. It is used in highways, bridges, airports, etc.

Main Performance:

1. Isolation effect. Laying crack-resistant tape isolates the cracked surface layer from the asphalt surface layer, preventing direct contact between the cracked layer and the asphalt surface layer. The tensile stress from base layer cracks cannot be directly transmitted to the asphalt concrete surface layer. Although it reduces the bonding force between the base and surface layers, the polymer crack-resistant tape allows the upper and lower layers to adhere well as a whole, jointly bearing vehicle loads, effectively preventing relative displacement between the interface layers and maintaining continuity. 

2. Reinforcement effect. Crack-resistant tape has a certain strength and can withstand a certain amount of crack tensile stress. When the crack tensile stress exceeds the tensile strength of the crack-resistant tape, the tape begins to deform, and only then does the surface layer start to bear the tensile stress transmitted by the tape. The crack-resistant tape layer will bear the full tensile stress of the crack, clearly playing a reinforcing role. In this sense, it enhances the tensile strength of the pavement structure layer. 

3. Energy dissipation and buffering effect. Crack-resistant tape is a material with certain extensibility, and the polymer has good low-temperature flexibility. Laid between asphalt pavement layers, it acts as an elastic layer. The tensile stress from base layer cracks is distributed over a wider area through the polymer of the crack-resistant tape, thereby reducing the stress intensity at the crack. The elastic interlayer can absorb part of the tensile stress. 

4. Waterproofing and anti-seepage effect. The polymer in crack-resistant tape forms a complete waterproof and anti-seepage layer, preventing surface water from penetrating into the subgrade, thus protecting the strength of the base layer and preventing further deterioration of the base material. Crack-resistant tape used in asphalt pavement layers can prevent cracks from propagating upward, leveraging its anti-crack and energy-absorption functions in practical engineering applications.
