As a clean fuel, blue carbon emits significantly lower levels of SO?, NOx, dust, and heavy metals during combustion compared to raw coal. Its post-combustion emission indicators fully meet environmental standards and have been recognized as a clean energy source by the National Development and Reform Commission and the Hebei Provincial Government, without consuming coal usage quotas. Blue carbon boasts a high calorific value of 6,200 kcal/kg, with an annual production exceeding 100 million tons, and its price is highly competitive. However, due to its low volatile content and unique carbon particle structure, it faces challenges such as difficulty in ignition and incomplete combustion in conventional boilers, which severely limits its widespread application in industrial boilers. Blue carbon (also known as semi-coke or coke) has a block-like structure, typically with a particle size above 3mm, and appears light black in color. Currently, there are two main types of blue carbon: traditionally produced blue carbon and mechanically produced blue carbon. Although both types are derived from the same high-quality refined coal, differences in production processes and equipment result in varying costs and quality. High-quality blue carbon is primarily produced in Shenmu and Fugu, Shaanxi Province. Quality standards: Fixed carbon >82%, volatile matter <4%, ash content <6%, sulfur <0.3%, moisture <10%, specific resistance >3,500 μΩ·m, particle size: 15–25mm, not exceeding 30mm. Blue carbon fuel is an energy source that contains almost no sulfur, very little nitrogen, and offers the advantage of low CO? emissions. Among various utilization pathways for blue carbon, one of the simplest and most feasible methods for large-scale, efficient, and clean utilization is its direct use in combustion equipment without significant modifications. Its promotion and application play a crucial role in advancing the development of clean fuel energy technologies in China, protecting the environment, and improving ecological conditions. It not only reduces fuel costs and SO? emissions but also addresses the challenge of waste disposal, delivering significant energy-saving and environmental benefits.
