Drive-in racking, also known as drive-through racking or tunnel-type racking, provides high-density storage in a relatively small space and is widely used in industries with large storage volumes, few types of items, and frequent access, such as cold storage for food, beverages, raw material warehouses, and dairy products. Its structural principle involves connecting multiple rows of upright frames together without beam structures, supported by top beams and connected via cantilevers and pallet rails, with pallets moving along the rails. Forklifts can directly drive into the storage lanes for loading and unloading operations. Storage follows a "first-in, last-out" principle, where items are stored from the inside out and retrieved from the outside in, aligning with the typical last-in-first-out (LIFO) storage concept. This design allows for approximately 70% utilization of warehouse space. Before use, it is essential to determine the pallet type, specifications, dimensions, item height and weight, as well as the parameters of the forklift to be used. Then, the number of pallets for each stock-keeping unit (SKU) should be counted to determine the rack height, span, depth, and layer height, ensuring a customized design.

The main features of drive-in racking are as follows:

1. This type of racking is a continuous, integrated structure without aisle divisions. Pallets are arranged in the depth direction along the support rails, closely adjacent to each other, achieving high-density storage.

2. Loading and unloading of goods are performed from the same side of the racking, following the principle of storing first and retrieving later. Counterbalance forklifts or reach trucks can smoothly drive into the middle of the racking to access goods without occupying multiple aisles.

3. This racking is particularly suitable for storing large quantities of goods with few varieties.

4. Drive-in racking adopts a fully plug-in assembly structure with modular upright design. Racking in wall-adjacent areas can be designed for up to 7 pallet depths, while racking in central areas accessible from both sides can typically achieve 9 pallet depths, improving forklift efficiency and reliability.

5. Its relatively low investment cost makes it suitable for applications with large horizontal dimensions, few varieties, high quantities, and predictable access patterns. It is commonly used for storing large batches of identical goods. This racking is widely applied in warehouses and logistics centers for industries such as food, tobacco, dairy, and beverages, and is especially common in cold storage facilities.
