I. Refrigerated Air Dryer:
A refrigerated air dryer (also known as a cold dryer) operates on physical principles to reduce the moisture in compressed air below the dew point, removing water from the air to produce drier air. Simply put, it cools the air to separate out moisture. However, limited by the freezing point of water, the dew point temperature of a refrigerated dryer can theoretically approach 0°C but not reach it. After treatment by a refrigerated dryer, the pressure dew point typically ranges between 2–10°C. Water removal efficiency reaches 99.44%.
Compressed air enters the evaporator, where heat exchange with the refrigerant occurs through the evaporator’s heat transfer function. The heat in the compressed air is absorbed by the refrigerant, rapidly cooling the air. Moisture in the humid air reaches saturation and quickly condenses. The condensed water forms droplets, which are separated and discharged through an automatic drain valve.
The pressure dew point of air treated by a refrigerated dryer can reach 2°C. Air at this dew point generally meets the moisture content requirements of most equipment. If a lower dew point is needed, an adsorption dryer must be used.
