Properties: Pale yellow amorphous powder or hexagonal, cubic crystals. Odorless. Gradually turns black upon exposure to air and light. Reacts slowly with boiling concentrated acids but not with hot alkali hydroxide solutions. Easily soluble in cyanide and iodide solutions, soluble in concentrated hydriodic acid, bromide, chloride, thiocyanate, thiosulfate, mercuric nitrate, and silver nitrate solutions. Almost insoluble in water, acids other than hydriodic acid, and ammonium carbonate solution.
