China RoHS Certification

1. Certification Introduction

"China RoHS Certification," also known as "National Voluntary Certification for Pollution Control of Electronic Information Products," refers to the nationally promoted voluntary certification for pollution control in electronic information products.

In 2006, the former Ministry of Information Industry and six other departments jointly issued the "Administrative Measures for Pollution Control of Electronic Information Products," which officially took effect on March 1, 2007. These regulations imposed controls on hazardous substances in electronic information products entering the Chinese market, requiring public disclosure of the names, content, and environmentally friendly usage periods of such substances in products.

In 2016, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), in collaboration with the State Administration for Market Regulation and seven other departments, revised the original "Administrative Measures" and jointly issued the "Management Methods for the Restriction of the Use of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Products." The revisions expanded the scope of control from "electronic information products" to "electrical and electronic products" and aligned with international standards by modifying the conformity assessment methods. On March 15, 2019, the "Catalog of Compliance Management for the Restriction of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Products" officially came into effect. It specified that the first batch of 12 types of electrical and electronic products must comply with the limits for hazardous substances (lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls, and polybrominated diphenyl ethers) and be included in the conformity assessment system for the restriction of hazardous substances in electrical and electronic products.

Nationally promoted RoHS became mandatory on November 1, 2019. All products listed in the "Catalog of Compliance Management for the Restriction of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Products (First Batch)" must meet the requirements of the nationally promoted RoHS regulations.

The validity period of the nationally promoted RoHS certificate covering the 12 categories of products is 5 years, with annual supervision and sampling inspections required.
