Dimethyl Carbonate / DMC Applications

Dimethyl carbonate can replace traditionally used toxic raw materials such as dimethyl sulfate and methyl chloride. It can be used in non-synthetic polycarbonates, diphenyl carbonate, isocyanates, and allyl diglycol carbonate; for synthesizing various carbamate pesticides, such as carbaryl; as an organic synthesis intermediate, such as anisole, veratrole, alkyl arylamine, symmetrical diaminourea, methyl hydrazinecarboxylate, etc.; in the pharmaceutical industry, it can be used to produce intermediates like aminooxazolidinone, ciprofloxacin, β-ketocarboxylic acid esters, etc.

Dimethyl carbonate is mainly categorized into three types: industrial grade, medical grade, and battery grade. Industrial grade dimethyl carbonate accounts for more than half of the market share. The produced dimethyl carbonate is primarily used in the production of polycarbonates and electrolyte solvents.
