In the past, the electronics industry commonly used CFCs, which are being banned due to their damage to the ozone layer and contribution to the greenhouse effect. Their substitute, HCFC, still contains chlorine and can only serve as a transitional cleaning solvent.
In response to this trend, 3M has developed the NOVEC HFE (Hydrofluoroether) solvent series. Unlike transitional alternatives such as HCFC, 3M NOVEC HFE, with its excellent environmental characteristics, offers a long-term solution. It provides an effective, safe, and environmentally compliant solution for industries requiring precision cleaning processes.
3M NOVEC HFE has moderate solubility and good material compatibility. Moreover, compared to previously used fluorinated liquids, it has an ozone depletion potential of 0, a low global warming potential (GWP), and a short atmospheric lifetime, meeting environmental regulations.

3M NOVEC HFE is a colorless, transparent, low-viscosity, non-flammable, and highly safe liquid. It serves the same purposes as previously used fluorinated ethanes.
