Measurement Principle:

German Erichsen Erichsen 234/R Wet Film Thickness Gauge rolls on the surface of the wet film. During this process, two knurled, centered rims roll over the substrate. When the distance from the rim to the cam equals the wet film thickness being measured, the eccentric cam will pick up the coating.

The circular tester is rolled on the wet film. During rolling, two concentric cylindrical surfaces (1) roll on the substrate, and a third cylindrical surface (2), eccentric to (1), contacts the wet film. The reading corresponding to the point where surface (2) does not pick up the wet film is the thickness of the wet film.

Application Range:

Wet film thickness on flat and even curved surfaces of various coated and laminated products.

Design and Function:

German Erichsen Erichsen 234/R Wet Film Thickness Gauge features a hardened, precision-ground stainless steel measuring disc with a diameter of 50 mm and a thickness of 11 mm. It includes an aluminum free-rotating roller that allows the wet film thickness gauge to roll on the surface.

There are 8 different models and measurement ranges (see ordering information).

The reading scale is engraved on one side of the disc, and each instrument comes with a case.

Testing Method:

Film Thickness Gauge Measurement Method One:

Hold the guide roller of the instrument with your thumb and forefinger, place the wet film thickness gauge on the test surface with the contact point opposite the zero line. Apply light pressure to roll, moving the instrument towards the zero line, then lift it.

Film Thickness Gauge Measurement Method Two:

Start from the maximum range of the wet film thickness gauge and roll in the opposite direction until it reaches the zero line.

The wet film thickness is read at the point where the wet film mark appears and compared with the opposite side to obtain an average value.
