γ-Aminobutyric acid (GABA), also known as aminobutanoic acid, is an amino acid derivative. It is a non-protein amino acid that acts as a nerve sedative in animals, primarily derived from glutamic acid through decarboxylation. GABA is a central nervous system sedative, and studies have shown it has sedative, anticonvulsant, antihypertensive, brain-enhancing, neurotrophic, growth hormone-promoting, and liver and kidney-protecting effects. It is widely used in the pharmaceutical and food industries. In recent years, research and application of GABA in the feed industry have gained increasing attention. It has anti-heat stress, growth-promoting, and feed efficiency-improving effects on livestock and poultry, while also improving their health and production performance. Many animal nutrition experts are studying its application mechanisms. γ-Aminobutyric acid is a new type of feed additive with anti-heat stress and growth-promoting effects on livestock and poultry.
