Most insoluble matter can be removed by filtering the mobile phase through a frit or membrane filter, but fine particles may pass through the filter. Additionally, after the mobile phase is prepared, there is a possibility of insoluble or impure substances entering from the air, containers, or human contact. Depending on the analytical purpose, these insoluble or impure substances can contaminate the column, cause blockages, or adversely affect the analysis. Installing a guard column before the analytical column can prevent these issues and protect the chromatographic column. Without the need for tools, a short guard column with the same packing material as the column is placed between the injection valve and the chromatographic column, which will extend the column's lifespan and ensure reproducible results.
