Fault Phenomena, Causes, and Solutions for the YANMAR Diesel Engine Used in Diesel Sweepers

1. Engine oil pressure indicator light on, indicating that the engine oil level is too low or too high, or the engine oil filter screen is clogged. The solution is to check the engine oil level and add or drain oil, or replace the oil filter screen.

2. Battery indicator light on, indicating that the battery is damaged or the starter motor is faulty. Check the battery condition or contact the local YANMAR dealer.

3. Indicator light not on—when the key switch is in the ON position (OFF to ON), indicating a wiring fault or indicator light failure. Contact the local YANMAR dealer promptly.

4. Starter motor works but the engine fails to start, indicating a lack of diesel fuel, incorrect diesel grade, clogged diesel tank outlet filter, weak diesel injection, intake or exhaust valve leakage, or damaged engine stop solenoid valve. If the filter is clogged, clean or replace it. For other faults, contact the local YANMAR dealer promptly.

5. During manual starting, the starter motor does not work or rotates too slowly. Main reasons include low battery charge, poor battery connection, damaged starter switch or starter motor. For low battery charge, check the battery terminals or recharge. For poor connection, clean the battery terminals and tighten the screws.

6. Engine cannot be started manually. Check if the decompression lever is pressed down. If it is pressed down, it may indicate damage to internal engine components.

7. Engine emits black smoke, mainly due to engine overload, clogged air filter, use of unsuitable diesel, faulty fuel injector, or improper intake or exhaust valve clearance.

8. Engine emits white smoke, mainly due to use of unsuitable diesel, faulty fuel injector, delayed diesel injection timing, or engine burning oil.
