It is a synthetic ultra-hard material, second only to diamond in hardness, with a Mohs hardness of 9.46, microhardness of 5600–6200 kg/mm2, specific gravity of 2.52 g/cm3, and melting point of 2250°C. It does not react with acidic or alkaline solutions and exhibits high chemical potential, neutron absorption, wear resistance, and semiconductor conductivity. It is one of the most acid-stable substances, remaining stable in all concentrated or dilute acidic or alkaline aqueous solutions. It possesses stable physical and chemical properties.
