Heat-absorbing glass is a type of flat glass that can absorb a large amount of infrared radiation while maintaining high visible light transmittance. There are two methods for producing heat-absorbing glass: one involves adding a certain amount of heat-absorbing colorants to the raw materials of ordinary soda-lime silicate glass; the other involves coating the surface of flat glass with one or multiple layers of metal or metal oxide films.

Heat-absorbing glass comes in colors such as gray, bronze, blue, green, copper, bronze, pink, and golden yellow. Currently, China mainly produces the first three colors of heat-absorbing glass. Thicknesses available are 2mm, 3mm, 5mm, and 6mm. Heat-absorbing glass can also be further processed into polished, tempered, laminated, or insulated glass. Compared to ordinary flat glass, heat-absorbing glass has the following characteristics:

1. Absorbs solar radiation heat. For example, 6mm thick transparent float glass allows 84% of total solar heat to pass through, while under the same conditions, heat-absorbing glass allows only 60% of total solar heat to pass through. The degree of solar radiation absorption varies with the color and thickness of the heat-absorbing glass.

2. Absorbs visible sunlight, reducing the intensity of sunlight and providing anti-glare effects.

3. Has a certain level of transparency and can absorb a certain amount of ultraviolet radiation.

Due to these characteristics, heat-absorbing glass is widely used in building doors, windows, exterior walls, and as windshields for vehicles and ships, providing functions such as heat insulation, glare reduction, lighting, and decoration.
