- Magnetostrictive level gauges are used for industrial measurement and control of liquid levels in various tanks, including petroleum and chemical raw material storage, industrial processes, biochemistry, pharmaceuticals, food and beverages, tank farm management, and underground inventory at gas stations. They are also applied in dam water level monitoring, reservoir water level observation, and sewage treatment, among others. A float is mounted outside the sensor rod of the magnetostrictive level gauge, which moves up and down along the rod as the liquid level changes. Inside the float, there is a set of magnetic rings. When the magnetic field generated by the pulse current intersects with the magnetic field of the float's magnetic rings, the surrounding magnetic field alters, causing the waveguide wire made of magnetostrictive material to produce a torsional wave pulse at the position of the float. This pulse travels back along the waveguide wire at a constant speed and is detected by the sensing mechanism. By measuring the time difference between the pulse current and the torsional wave, the position of the float, i.e., the liquid level, can be accurately determined. Technical advantages of magnetostrictive level gauges: They are suitable for clean liquid level measurements with high requirements, achieving an accuracy of 1mm, with new products reaching up to 0.1mm. Magnetostrictive level gauges can also be used for interface level measurement between two different liquids. Designed with explosion-proof features, they are suitable for hazardous environments. Intelligent electronic circuitry allows for the calculation of volumetric capacity. The moving part is the float, resulting in extremely low maintenance requirements.
