How to choose wire rope clips for lifting machinery and hoisting equipment?

1. "Wire rope clips (national standard forged)" are suitable for more critical load-bearing environments. Recommended industries: cranes, pile drivers, mining, metallurgical equipment, oil rigs, port machinery, elevators, and other hoisting machinery. According to standard GB/T 5976—2006 "Wire Rope Clips" clause 4.2.4, when clips are used on cranes, forged wire rope clips are recommended. (Reference: GB/T5976-2006 Wire Rope Clips).

Tieren Machinery has found that there are some cast wire rope clips on the market. If defects such as pores or sand holes exist, the clip base may shatter under destructive heavy pressure. In contrast, wire rope clips (national standard forged) have undergone multiple destructive heavy pressure tests; even if the clip base undergoes plastic deformation, it will not shatter.

2. When selecting wire rope clips, first identify the lay direction of the wire rope, i.e., right lay and left lay. According to the standard: the surface of the wire rope clip groove should match the lay direction of the wire rope surface. Therefore, wire rope clips are also divided into left clips and right clips and should be selected appropriately; they are not interchangeable. Incorrect selection will reduce the friction coefficient and pose a danger.

3. Compared to cast wire rope clips, wire rope clips (national standard forged) have a higher density of internal structural units, and the arc-shaped rope groove matches the wire rope for high binding strength. Additionally, when purchasing wire rope clips, special attention should be paid to inspecting the U-bolt thread dimensions. The thread outer diameter should meet the requirements of GB/T 197-2003. Excessive clearance between the thread and the nut reduces the gripping force. The U-bolt opening size should meet standard requirements; an oversized opening may cause strand misalignment, while an undersized opening may reduce clamping force. Carefully inspect before use.

4. Other considerations: Wire rope clips (national standard forged) feature anti-slip grooves designed to match the wire rope lay direction. If the wire rope has a special structure such as eight-strand or triangular strand, this should be specified to the supplier before ordering.

5. Correct arrangement of wire rope clips: The clip arrangement should comply with standard regulations. The distance between clips should be 6-7 times the rope diameter (this applies to natural state and when using thimbles). Clips that have been used under load are generally not recommended for reuse.
