I. Material Properties and Uses of PEN

1) Uses of PEN Film: PEN film has a wide range of applications, primarily including the following: It is mainly used as the base tape for audio and video recording tapes, Class "F" insulation film, capacitor film, flexible printed circuits, flexible heating elements, wire coating, dry-type transformers, motors, back-electret microphones, smart cards, durable labels, connecting wires for color copiers, acoustic membranes, among others. Among these, Class "F" insulation film holds the most promise. Currently, PEN film is also being developed for use in data tapes. Additionally, due to its excellent heat resistance and high film strength, PEN film shows potential for applications in automotive sensors and insulation components. It possesses outstanding mechanical and chemical properties, sufficient to meet the increasingly stringent demands of the IT industry, particularly demonstrating advantages in electronic and electrical applications.

2) PEN Performance: The structure of PEN is similar to that of PET. Its main characteristics (especially when used as a container) include:

① Low gas permeability and excellent barrier properties;

② Good ultraviolet absorption;

③ High glass transition temperature and excellent heat resistance;

④ Good chemical resistance;

⑤ Low aroma absorption rate;

⑥ Hydrolysis resistance. PEN exhibits high barrier properties, water resistance, air tightness, UV resistance, good heat resistance, chemical resistance, radiation resistance, etc., making it widely applicable for packaging carbonated beverages, beer, fruit juices, and other products, replacing glass packaging. It is extensively used in industrial fibers, films, magnetic tapes, pharmaceutical packaging, and engineering plastics, among other areas, making it a promising new type of polyester material with significant development potential.
