Properties: Iron-free aluminum sulfate is a white crystal with a specific gravity of 1.69, easily soluble in water, insoluble in alcohol, and its aqueous solution is acidic. Dehydration temperature is 860°C; it loses crystal water when heated to 250°C. Anhydrous aluminum sulfate begins to decompose at 300°C and decomposes into γ-Al?O?, etc., at 860°C. The anhydrous form is a white crystal with a pearly luster.
Applications: Mainly used in the manufacturing of high-grade paper and as a sizing agent, for post-coating treatment in titanium dioxide production. Also used as a paper sizing agent, flocculant for drinking water, industrial water, and wastewater treatment, production of catalyst carriers, artificial gemstones, and other aluminum salts. It is also widely used as a fat clarifier, petroleum deodorizer and decolorizer, concrete waterproofing agent, and raw material for rainproof cloth.
