Organic Synthesis Solvent:

Substitutes for tetrahydrofuran (THF) in Grignard reactions and coupling reactions involving lithium reagents (e.g., Negishi reaction); the steric hindrance of methyl groups reduces side reactions (such as THF ring-opening), improving product yield (e.g., the yield of the reaction between aryl bromides and magnesium increases from 82% to 95%).

As a solvent for radical reactions (e.g., Barton deoxygenation), it has better stability against peroxides than diethyl ether, reducing explosion risks.

Extraction and Separation:

Used in biomass refining to extract bio-oil from lignocellulose (dissolution efficiency is 15% higher than toluene), and it can be recovered and recycled (recovery rate > 90%).
