NCS is a relatively convenient electrophilic addition and electrophilic substitution reagent, commonly used for the chlorination of sulfides, sulfones, and ketones, and can also be used to synthesize N-chlorinated amines. NCS is sensitive to moisture and should be stored in a desiccator. During use, avoid inhalation or skin contact; operations should generally be carried out in a well-ventilated fume hood. |
