Bitumen is hydrocarbon material in black to brown color, totally soluble in carbon sulfide and carbon tetrachloride.

Bitumen is from oil phosphates, being solid in ambient temperature that goes to pasty and crumby form and then to liquid state by increasing temperature. Due to the two important characteristics of being impermeable and adhesivness, bitumen has various application, and is mostly used in road construction and insulation industries. Bitumen has different types and the extracted bitumen from oil is called “pure bitumen”.
