Inverter Selection Principles

    Grid-connected inverters are critical equipment in photovoltaic power generation systems, playing a pivotal role in the conversion efficiency and reliability of the PV system. The main technical principles for inverter selection are as follows:

(1) Reliable performance and high efficiency:

Photovoltaic power generation systems currently have high power generation costs. If the inverter consumes too much energy or fails during the power generation process, it will inevitably lead to a loss in total power generation and a decrease in the system's economic efficiency. Therefore, the inverter must be reliable and highly efficient, and capable of outputting maximum power (MPPT) based on the current operating conditions of the solar panel modules.

(2) Wide adaptability range for DC input voltage:

Since the output voltage of solar panels varies with sunlight intensity, weather conditions, and load, the inverter must ensure normal operation within a wide range of DC input voltages and maintain stable AC output voltage.

(3) Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT):

The input resistance of the inverter should adapt to the actual operating characteristics of the photovoltaic power generation system to ensure that the system operates at the maximum power point.

(4) Low waveform distortion and high power factor:

When large-scale photovoltaic power generation systems are connected to the grid, to avoid polluting the public grid, the inverter must output a sine wave, and the current waveform must be consistent with the external grid. Waveform distortion should be less than 5%, higher harmonic content should be less than 3%, and the power factor should be close to 1.

(5) Protection functions:

Grid-connected inverters should also have protection functions such as AC overvoltage and undervoltage protection, overfrequency and underfrequency protection, high-temperature protection, AC and DC overcurrent protection, DC overvoltage protection, and anti-islanding protection.

(6) Monitoring and data acquisition:

The inverter should have multiple communication interfaces for data acquisition and transmission to the remote control room. Its controller should also have analog input ports to connect with external sensors for measuring data such as sunlight and temperature, facilitating data processing and analysis for the entire power station.
